I believe that if the fundamentals of a subject are clear, any student can escalate, especially in subjects like geography and calculus. I have seen many teachers discussing the shortcuts and tricks to solve a math problem without explaining the basic idea behind it. I think this is why students score low as they are not able to handle different kinds of questions. Hence at first, I focus upon clearing the basic concepts and then move on to advanced tricks. This helps students in dealing with all kinds of questions of a similar pattern but advanced levels.
